Sintered NdFeB magnets, sold as the NEOREC series, for traction motors in electrified vehicles, industrial equipment motors and wind power, together with ferrite magnets for small motors. TDK markets dysprosium-free grades and a grain boundary diffusion process it calls HAL, which it says sharply reduces heavy rare earth content compared with conventional production.

Magnet-only revenue is not broken out. The Magnetic Application Products segment reported JPY 262.9 billion, but it bundles hard disk drive heads and suspension assemblies together with magnets and is dominated by the drive components.

Narrative
TDK was founded in 1935 to commercialize ferrite and has made magnets since the FB1A ferrite material of 1959. Magnets sit inside its Magnetic Application Products segment alongside hard disk drive heads and suspension assemblies, so magnet-only revenue is not disclosed. In the year to March 2026 that segment reported JPY 262.9 billion of net sales, up 17.6 percent, and TDK stated that magnet sales rose on automotive demand while the magnet business's operating loss narrowed on quality and cost measures. Neodymium magnets are made at Narita in Chiba and at a Guangdong joint venture at Meizhou established in 2013; ferrite magnets are made in Shizuoka. TDK acquired Showa Denko's neodymium magnet alloy research business in 2018 and set up a magnet alloy subsidiary at Ganzhou, Jiangxi in 2019.
Where public sources disagree
- Magnet revenue cannot be read from the segment. Magnetic Application Products is hard disk drive heads plus suspension assemblies plus magnets, and the drive components dominate it.
- TDK's own results briefing for the year to March 2026 says the magnet business was still loss-making, with the loss narrowing. That is a company statement rather than an inference, and it is unusual enough to be worth keeping in view.
- Ownership of the Meizhou joint venture is stated two ways by TDK itself: the 2013 establishment release gives TDK 59%, and the current China subsidiary page gives the TDK Group 63%. No release explains the change.
- A figure of 1,500 t/yr for the Meizhou joint venture appears in one 2013 third-party write-up of the launch. TDK's own release gives no capacity, and the number is now more than a decade old.
- No public tonnage capacity exists for any TDK magnet plant. Figures circulating in market-report and search-optimized content are either unsourced or paywalled vendor estimates.
- A 2015 Japanese trade report describes magnet production being shifted from Narita to China and Thailand. Nothing since updates that publicly, and TDK's current site lists its Thai operations as hard disk drive suspension assemblies rather than magnets.

Where public sources disagree, I say so rather than picking a winner. Where a figure has not been published, the field says so rather than carrying an estimate. An empty field is information too.
Public filings tell you what a company has said. Whether it holds up is a different question, and the one I get hired to answer.
