Narrative

LS Eco Energy (KRX KOSPI: 229640) is the LS Cable & System subsidiary that holds the group's Vietnamese cable plants, LS-VINA and LSCV. In February 2024, sister company LS Eco Advanced Materials announced a plan with Germany's VAC for a neodymium magnet venture targeting 1,000 t/yr of magnets by 2027; reports described it variously as a joint venture, a letter of intent or an MoU, and no later update has been published. In July 2024 LS Eco Energy reported a rare-earth oxide supply contract with Vietnam's Hung Thinh Mineral. On December 17, 2025, its board approved about KRW 28.5 billion for rare-earth metallization at the LSCV site in Ho Chi Minh City. In March 2026 it signed a non-binding framework agreement with Lynas Rare Earths to work toward a long-term processing arrangement in which Lynas oxide is converted to metal in Vietnam, with samarium metal first and NdPr and selected heavy rare earths later. On July 27, 2026 the two signed binding agreements to cross-subscribe zero-coupon, five-year convertible instruments of about KRW 30 billion (about A$29 million) each; the definitive processing agreement, with volumes, pricing and term, had not been announced as of mid-October 2026. On September 30, 2026 LS Eco Energy approved KRW 11.6 billion for a 58% stake in a new Vietnamese company, Global SHRE Metal, to run a samarium metal line at LSCV with a design capacity of about 240 t/yr and trial production targeted for December 2026; no commercial-operation date or capacity for NdPr, Dy or Tb metal has been disclosed. The same day, LS Cable & System disclosed a KRW 150 billion equity injection, paid October to December 2026, into Korea Motion Works, a wholly owned company formed to make rare-earth permanent magnets, with Gumi reported as the site; no capacity or schedule has been published. LS Cable & System also plans sintered magnet production in Chesapeake, Virginia, within a US$689 million complex expected to be fully operational in 2029 or 2030. LS Eco Energy reported Q2 2026 revenue of KRW 350.3 billion, almost entirely from cables, and no rare-earth revenue.

How this page is sourced

Everything here comes from public sources — company filings, annual reports, exchange announcements, government releases and trade press. Every figure is linked to the document it came from and carries the date that document was published, because a capacity number without a date is not a fact, it is a rumor with a decimal point.

What is deliberately absent: material nonpublic information. I have spent more than two decades in this industry and a good deal of what I know about these companies I learned under NDA. Those obligations do not expire and they do not bend for a website. Nothing I have been told in confidence appears here in any form, and nothing on this page — or missing from it — should be read as a signal about what I know privately. I hold NDAs absolutely. It is the reason clients tell me things.

Judgment is the other thing left out on purpose. This page reports what has been published and who published it. Whether a target is credible, whether a ramp will hold, whether a capacity figure survives contact with the plant behind it — that is the work I do for clients, and it does not belong in a free reference page.

Where public sources disagree, I say so rather than picking a winner. Where a figure has not been published, the field says so rather than carrying an estimate. An empty field is information too.

Public filings tell you what a company has said. Whether it holds up is a different question, and the one I get hired to answer.
