Narrative
China Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd. is a central state-owned enterprise formed in December 2021 by combining the rare-earth businesses of Chinalco, China Minmetals, and Ganzhou Rare Earth Group, along with equity stakes contributed by GRINM and CISRI. It is headquartered in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, and reports to SASAC. At formation it held mining and smelting/separation quotas representing roughly 31 percent and 29 percent of national totals respectively, concentrated in medium and heavy rare earths. Industry commentary has cited a considerably larger informal share of medium- and heavy-rare-earth supply, but that figure comes from an unnamed industry estimate rather than a company or government disclosure and is not carried in this profile's capacity figures. The group does not appear to publish a consolidated group-level revenue figure; two of its listed subsidiaries, China Rare Earth Resources and Technology (Shenzhen-listed) and China Rare Earth Nonferrous Metals, also known as Guangsheng Nonferrous (Shanghai-listed), report their own revenues separately, with the latter including non-rare-earth tungsten and tin operations. As of September 2026, unconfirmed reporting has described the group as being in talks regarding a potential move to take control of Shenghe Resources, a separately listed company that itself holds a minority stake in MP Materials; no agreement or timeline has been confirmed.
Where public sources disagree
- An industry estimate placing the group's share of medium- and heavy-rare-earth supply at approximately 62% could not be traced to a company or government disclosure and is not treated as a verified figure.
- The mapping of listed entities 000831 (Shenzhen) and 600259 (Shanghai) to specific group divisions is only partially verified from public sources, and the group's absolute registered capital at founding could not be independently confirmed.
- A similarly named but unrelated Hong Kong-listed company, China Rare Earth Holdings Limited (0769.HK), should not be confused with this mainland, SASAC-supervised group.
- As of September 2026, unconfirmed reporting describes the group as being in talks to take control of Shenghe Resources; no deal or timeline has been confirmed as of this writing.

How this page is sourced
Everything here comes from public sources — company filings, annual reports, exchange announcements, government releases and trade press. Every figure is linked to the document it came from and carries the date that document was published, because a capacity number without a date is not a fact, it is a rumor with a decimal point.
What is deliberately absent: material nonpublic information. I have spent more than two decades in this industry and a good deal of what I know about these companies I learned under NDA. Those obligations do not expire and they do not bend for a website. Nothing I have been told in confidence appears here in any form, and nothing on this page — or missing from it — should be read as a signal about what I know privately. I hold NDAs absolutely. It is the reason clients tell me things.
Judgment is the other thing left out on purpose. This page reports what has been published and who published it. Whether a target is credible, whether a ramp will hold, whether a capacity figure survives contact with the plant behind it — that is the work I do for clients, and it does not belong in a free reference page.
Where public sources disagree, I say so rather than picking a winner. Where a figure has not been published, the field says so rather than carrying an estimate. An empty field is information too.
Public filings tell you what a company has said. Whether it holds up is a different question, and the one I get hired to answer.
