Advanced Technology & Materials Co., Ltd. (AT&M)

Sintered NdFeB (neodymium-iron-boron) rare-earth permanent magnets, including grain-boundary-diffusion high-coercivity grades, for automotive and industrial motors, alongside AT&M's other core businesses in powder metallurgy materials, tungsten-based materials, amorphous and nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials, and specialty steels. Public disclosures describe AT&M's magnet line as NdFeB only; no public source confirms SmCo production.

Narrative

Advanced Technology & Materials Co., Ltd. (AT&M), stock code 000969 on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, is a Beijing-headquartered central state-owned enterprise controlled by China Steel Research Technology Group, itself administered by China's State Council SASAC. Founded in 1998 as a spin-off of the Central Iron and Steel Research Institute and listed in 2000, AT&M is a diversified advanced-materials platform spanning powder metallurgy, tungsten materials, specialty steel and welding consumables, environmental services, and rare-earth permanent magnets. Its NdFeB magnet business carried roughly 12,000 t/yr of company-wide nameplate capacity as of February 2026, including a 5,000 t/yr high-end joint venture, Antai Beifang, formed with China Northern Rare Earth at Baotou, Inner Mongolia, reported to still be ramping up production at that time. AT&M's own 2024 annual report separately describes NdFeB production capacity exceeding 10,000 tons for that year. Group-wide FY2024 revenue was RMB 7.573 billion with net profit of RMB 372 million, but AT&M does not publicly break out revenue specific to its magnet business.

How this page is sourced

Everything here comes from public sources — company filings, annual reports, exchange announcements, government releases and trade press. Every figure is linked to the document it came from and carries the date that document was published, because a capacity number without a date is not a fact, it is a rumor with a decimal point.

What is deliberately absent: material nonpublic information. I have spent more than two decades in this industry and a good deal of what I know about these companies I learned under NDA. Those obligations do not expire and they do not bend for a website. Nothing I have been told in confidence appears here in any form, and nothing on this page — or missing from it — should be read as a signal about what I know privately. I hold NDAs absolutely. It is the reason clients tell me things.

Judgment is the other thing left out on purpose. This page reports what has been published and who published it. Whether a target is credible, whether a ramp will hold, whether a capacity figure survives contact with the plant behind it — that is the work I do for clients, and it does not belong in a free reference page.

Where public sources disagree, I say so rather than picking a winner. Where a figure has not been published, the field says so rather than carrying an estimate. An empty field is information too.

Public filings tell you what a company has said. Whether it holds up is a different question, and the one I get hired to answer.
